Lisa Foiles

I shot Lisa Foiles for a magazine cover and after the job I sat her down and did a few for myself. Your teenagers might know who she is. I wish I would have had the time to do something a little more special, but it was a long day and everyone was tired. Anyway, I think this came out nice and it was a departure from the bright and cheery, smiley photos we did for the magazine. Lisa is quite the talent. She’s an actress, dancer and singer in the old tradition. Her music even leans toward a more classic style, not the teen pop you would expect from a nineteen year old.

Becky

See, if you come to the studio to work and you think you’re just going to get to leave when it’s all over, think again! Becky is a makeup artist that was here for the shoot with Chris and Michelle a couple posts ago. I forced her against her will so sit for a portrait. I asked her if she thinks she’ll ever be over Social Distortion and wish she didn’t get a tattoo on her arm with the bands name and a Mike Ness tattoo on her back. she just said, “Not yet.”

Shane

Shane is a graphic designer and lover of all things moto. We share that second trait. After getting a lot of compliments from my portrait of Brian Mallman, most notable from my consultant, I’ve decided to see if I can pull together a series of people with glasses shot in a similar way. It stems from me liking the reflections created with this particular lighting setup, which anyone can do with a little cash and a trip to Home Depot. Shane was only my second victim, but I have a couple other people in mind. We’ll see if my series ends up with two portraits. 🙂

Michelle

We did a little photo shoot over here for my friend Chris’ web site today. After we finished with the work, I took a few pictures of his fiance Michelle. I also shot some portraits of our makeup artist Becky and I’ll post those soon.

breath

I’ve spent so much time going through images trying to pull something out of them that wasn’t there at first glance. The original shot that this is from is a wide two page spread with two models that I really never liked much. I always loved this portion, but never though to crop it this tight until now. This is of course Kassidy. I always get something great with her.

Shmoopy

This is my wife Marisa. It was shot in a hotel room in Carmel, California a few years ago (pre-Lily). No stylists or makeup artists like usual. Just my beautiful Shmoopy. Yes, I’m robbing the cradle.
On the new portfolio front, I got the estimate for my new books and slip covers. Two portfolios will be just under $1000.00. That’s not a typo, and probably about middle of the road as these things go. I talked to one photographer about his portfolios and he said they cost him $850.00 each. I’ve been printing and re-scanning and re-working all of the images so I can send them to Eriko Yahiro along with a deposit check so she can get to work on them. it feels good to make progress.

3 Years Old (take two)

Here’s another take from Lily’s Three Year Old Birthday Shoot. Maybe this is a good time to mention that Lily is going to be a big sister in about five and a half to six months. According to an ultrasound, if all goes well, she’ll have a little brother to push around, just like my big sister did.

3 Years Old!

My little girl is three. It took a few days to get her in the studio for her birthday portrait and when we did get there it was a nightmare getting a little cooperation out of her, but I did manage to get a couple good frames. She’s sweet when she wants to be, but she’s got the attention span of a three year old.

Ingrid Smile

This is an out take from a Dayspa Magazine cover shoot. She was laughing at a joke made by someone off set. I’ve posted other pictures of Ingrid that I shot after this job was done, but this is the background, lighting and makeup on the cover shot. Speaking of the background. It reminds me a little of the color and feel that my new portfolios will have. Not exactly. As it stands right now (I’m waiting for some new sample swatches) the books will be a burgundy ultra suede with black leather spines inside a slipcase made of the same materials. Before the book binder Eriko Yahiro starts, I need to decide how the pages will be hinged or guarded so I can make prints for her to work with (guarding is a cloth hinge). I think I’ll be scoring and hole punching the edge of each print and printing on double sided 316gsm Hahnemüle Photo Rag Smooth fine art paper. I did some test prints on this and it kicks ass. I’ll talk more about the portfolios as I get further along in the process. They are going to be beautiful.

Diana

Diana was born in Equador and lived most of her life in England. She has the type of accent that makes you think she’s faking it. Sometimes it’s straight from South America and others it’s got a strange British twist that you wouldn’t even figure out unless you heard her story. Her accent is thick enough that you would think that English is her second language, but it’s actually her first. I love finding out these interesting little tidbits about the people I shoot. Well, interesting to me anyway. 🙂
