Ru Paul

Back to the archives. Why have I not posted this sooner? Let me just say that Ru Paul is one of the nicest people I’ve ever shot, celebrity or otherwise. I was doing a dear friend a favor by shooting some production stills for her short film, which starred Ru and after shooting that day I asked if he would sit for a portrait. He told me to take as long as I wanted. Refreshing!

Ceana

I won? Ha! It seems after so many years of being a runner up in every blog contest on Earth, I actually won Best Studio Blog in the 2007 Photobloggies. It’s been a very quiet contest this year so it figures that the year I win, no one seems to know about it. 🙂
Anyway, this is the first model I did a test with off of Model Mayhem. Her name is Ceana and she traveled all the way from Texas to shoot with a few different photographers in a few days. Makeup was done by Roshar, also on MM, even though I knew about him previously.

Troy Aikman

One from my portfolio and the archives. Troy Aikman shot on location in Texas Stadium for a fashion story in a magazine I won’t mention because they suck, or sucked. I don’t think they exist anymore. Things are getting caught up around here and the best thing I ever did was buy a new RAID system for archiving images. It’s a simple two drive enclosure that uses OS X’s RAID to mirror the drives. I’m filling two 500GB hard drives today and it’s a huge relief to get that stuff onto redundant drives. I’ll be buying more drives when these are full.

Desiree 2

This was shot for Dayspa Magazine a few months back. Desiree was a great model that fit this shot perfectly. I also shot her for my People Wearing Glasses series HERE.
The move is pretty much done, but there are plenty of projects that need to be worked on. That combined with the fact that I’ve been shooting jobs every day for the last couple weeks, makes it nearly impossible to update this thing. I did fit a test in there, so I’ll have a couple new shots to posts soon.

Lily

One more week of hotel living until we get to move into our new house. Lily can’t quite grasp how much better it’s going to be for her in the new place. She’s still missing the old place. Just this morning, while driving to school, she said to me, “I’m sad about our old house.”

Lindy Gamble 2

Another classic from the vaults. When it rains it pours over here. This is the week I set aside to move everything out of our house for the move into the hotel. Two weeks of hotel life before we move into the new house. So, what happens? The studio phone starts ringing off the hook. I guess I have to pay for the new house somehow. 🙂

Jeff H

Ahhh! It’s crazy around here right now. I’m in the middle of packing up our house because we need to be out soon, then there’s the two weeks we’re going to be living in a hotel before we can move into our new house. All that along with being busy shooting is killing me. So, here you go. One from the archives. Jeff was here when I was doing a portrait of another friend so I made him sit for me. The hand is Heidi’s.

Frank Filipetti

This is from the same ad series as the previous post. Here’s a story about the glamorous life of an advertising photographer. Hop on a plane in Los Angeles with the Art Director first thing in the morning. Fly to New York. Arrive there in the afternoon and take a cab to the location. Look at the room and meet Frank. Walk to our hotel and check in. Walk around the city for a couple hours and eat dinner. Go to bed, wake up, eat breakfast, check out of the hotel and walk with our bags back to the location. Meet the assistant and help move all the rental equipment into the recording studio where we are shooting. SHoot the job and do some video for the JBL web site. Pack up the equipment and say goodbye to the assistant. Hop in a cab and drive to the airport and fly home. That was my first trip to NY. 🙂

Nathaniel Kunkel

This portrait of Nathaniel Kunkel was shot for a JBL Pro Audio ad that is running right now in publications like Mix Magazine. Originally we were to shoot this in the mexican restaurant across the parking lot from Nate’s studio, but after some discussion, he mentioned this closet where he keeps all of his travel cases. As soon as we saw it, we knew it was perfect. Nathaniel is a recording engineer. His company Studio Without Walls has recorded for a wide range of musicians from Jackson Brown to The Crystal Method. His father is famed session drummer Russ Kunkel. Notice the little homage?

Melissa O

Hey all you new people! Oh, to the regulars, I’m talking to those that may be dropping by after reading an article about the blog called “It’s No Fauxto Blog” at imaginginfo.com. It just figures that after the article, I don’t have a witty story about the shot posted today. It’s an out take from a Nailpro Magazine shoot a few months back. I have sooo many shots of models showing their nails that I always try to shoot some without the hands or nail showing at the end. That way, my beauty book isn’t filled with nail shots. That’s all I got. 🙂
