JT

Smoking is gross. OK, I got that out, but it can make for an interesting image. This is the third in a series from Santa Fe. Many people got great images of JT that day… It’s hard not to. Here’s to every subject being as interesting as this one. If life were always this easy. :-)

subject: JT
camera/lens: Canon 5D, 70-200L IS @ 200mm
lighting: JT was standing against a wall that had two large windows on either side. The only other light was from a small silver card below his face bouncing the window light up towards his eyes. Sometimes the whole thing is that easy, which was a revelation to a studio dork like me.

OK wow! I’m sorry but I LOVE this photo. There is something so captivating in his eyes…
…and I have to say, smoke looks awsome in pictures. It’s a gross habit, but it’s true.

This is great. I can see why people get great photos, he has a cool look and energy. But the lighting is amazing, especially on his hand, where you can see the tendons.

  3. Two words Brooks… FRICKIN AWESOME!The only way I knew it was natrual light was the strange catchlights. This looks like a helluva studio shot. This would make a heckuva pro smoking ad to all teen boys!

I’m assuming that this is one of the things that was taught at the Seminar…..looking for places other than the Studio that can yield great shots just as you’ve produced here. You should certialy have gotten an “A” on this one!

Well, kinda. It was all about shaking our brains a bit. Every person in the workshop was a working professional and we all had our way of doing things. We were supposed to look beyond the obvious and find other ways to achieve our goals in a short time and with limited resources. Before the workshop I would have gone about this shot in a completely different way.

Nice, and yeah first thing I thought was how’d he light that in the studio? :-)
Which workshop session was this? It sounds like you enjoyed it.

  8. Brooks says:

Hi Ian. This was a workshop with Frank W. Ockenfels III. (I know you found this out on the forums, but I thought I’d answer here too.) :-)
